“The Luck of the Draw and Other Tales of Unnatural Selection”

Performance/Installation
Indigo
Sky Gallery, Savannah, Georgia

This performance combined storytelling, singing, and installation. Performing as my teenage character, I began by sitting in a “Lotus Chair” and telling stories that explored perceptions of sexuality, deformity, luck, and the experience of the “social other. While telling my stories, I slowly pulled hand-shaped flower petals off of the “Lotus Chair” mimicking a game of “He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not”. I also referenced paintings I made about the role of luck in unnatural selection in an original song I composed.
